This new and innovative programme has been developed specifically for any consumer facing business.

The programme has as its core objective to assist business owners in finding new growth areas of opportunity, to help to re-energise individual businesses, and to help mobilise the business community as a whole. The programme has been specifically designed to meet the needs of small and medium businesses, and is targeted at the business owners

Kick Start your Food Business

 

This 'Kick Start Your Own Food Business' programme is a short two day programme designed to help those with a food idea, or those at a very early stage of starting up a food business (typically the first 24 months).

 

The objective of the 2 days is to provide the participants with a base knowledge of what is involved in setting up a food business. The content is designed to provide you with information which will allow you to avoid the pit falls normally associated with this journey. (The programme content assumes you have the required business knowledge to run your enterprise e.g. you must already understand the basics of setting up a business, tax compliance rules, creating a business plan etc.)

 

While certain aspects of the programme are relevant to those setting up cafes/restaurants, the core programme content is designed for those producing food to be sold through third parties i.e. food producers. For those considering applying for the Food Academy Programme in the future, this programme will provide an excellent opportunity to boost your chances of securing a place.

Food Tourism Strategies

  • JB&A work with approximately 100 artisan producers per year and have extensive knowledge within the sector
  • James Burke is a member of the TASTE Council which ensures his knowledge of the strategic issues surrounding the artisan food sector are relevant and up to date

Business to Business Irish Retail & Mentoring Workshop

 

The programme will be run with a retail partner who will be involved at each stage throughout the programme and will participate in all key workshops and role play sessions.

The key areas that the retailer will be involved in:

  • Succeeding with buyers where the buyer will give an overview of how to achieve listings, gap analysis etc
  • Food Safety and supplier standards
  • If possible the retail partner would commit to have their buying team meet with each individual participant and provide them with constructive feedback.

Bord Bia Irish Retail Mentoring programme

 

The JB&A approach to these programmes, and the reason we are different in the market place as a provider of these programmes, is that we solely focus on achieving results for the participating companies.

This programme is not about running workshops or providing mentoring, it is about delivering real results in each of the participating manufacturers.

 

We recommend agreed KPI's be put into place in conjunction with Bord Bia client companies at the commencement of the programme which would be measured throughout the programme and reviewed on completion to ensure they have been achieved. Typically we would recommend that company owners/managers would set three objectives for the programme (2 commercial business objectives and 1 personal objective).

 

Our experience shows us that manufacturers who underperform typically suffer from wider management issues which prevent them from maximising success. While these issues vary by company, they typically can relate to management style, focus of the owner, structure and processes within the businesses. We will address these as part of the overall process but in particular the team will take advantage of the mentoring sessions to customise solutions needed for these issues.

Retail Market Development Programme

 

This programme will provide advanced mentoring for the retail entry graduate companies or companies who have requested the port.

The programme will contain the following:

 

Two Advanced Workshops

While these will be run as two separate workshops, we have combined the content of both and the split will be agreed once the make-up of the companies is apparent. We have taken the view that aggressive sales growth strategies needs to be incorporated in as a subject into these two days of workshops and included this also.

 

Joint Business Planning

This workshop will focus on strengthening the relationship between the producer and retailer through the process of creating joint plans at the beginning of the year which will be reviewed on an on-going basis.

 

Trade Investment

This workshop will focus on the investments producers need to make in developing their sales within the retail market.

 

Bord Bia Foodservice Programme

 

As well as having lengthy retail careers, both James and Maria run the Bord Bia Foodservice Programme which gives them an in-depth knowledge of the sector.

The team conduct approximately 300 mentor sessions per year, which ensures a suitable skillset for analysing business abilities and identifying opportunity areas. There is a continuous focus on mentor sessions outputs and progressing the producers on a journey between mentor sessions. During their Superquinn careers, both Maria and James had responsibility for organic products as part of their portfolios which gives them a clear understanding of the dynamics involved.
