Winter Survival:
- Build a strong database so you can contact customers quickly about weather related issues
- Anticipate emergency supplies people will need even though they might not be part of your core range e.g. batteries, candles
- Team up with neighbouring retailers to co - promote each other e.g. local winter jacket shop gives out a voucher for snow boots sold by another retailer
- Think of how you can really help e.g. deliveries of fuel
- Provide customers with welcome services e.g. hot cups of soup etc.
- Keep in touch with customers via Facebook
- Use your window display to get the message across
- Be innovative in terms of getting the message out to customers e.g. contact radio stations
- Stock up on winter related products well in advance of the event e.g. de-icer, salt etc.
- When the weather does change pull the appropriate stock to the front of the store to help remind customers
- Talk to your local Enterprise Board about doing a retail development programme
- See can your retail outlet act as central point for other services e.g. customers nominate your shop as a collection point for their mail
- If you can sell online, then react quickly and get your product to the maximum number of customers
- Provide customers with a list of local services and supports e.g. where to buy sand bags
- Use displays and windows to create fun winter related themes to generate sales
- Remember local can be a huge advantage during challenging weather
